Planet Waves Interview – The Tao of Astrology

by Kelly on June 2, 2012

This past week at the United Astrology Conference held in New Orleans, I had the pleasure of joining a global community of 1,500 astrologers gathered from over 30 nations for a mind-blowing week of astrological insight and connection.  Eric Francis of Planet Waves got wind of the new book I’m working on and asked me for an interview.  I think you might enjoy it!  Here’s the link followed by a small excerpt form the book.

Astronomical Data

The Solar Year is 365.256363004 Days

Mass: 333,000 × Earth

The Sun transits around the Birth Chart once per Year.

The Sun transits each Sign for one Month.

The Sun is a G-type star comprising 99.8632% of the total mass of the Solar System and is made of plasma, experiencing differential rotation between the poles and equator.  The Sun is currently traveling through the Local Interstellar Cloud in the Local Bubble zone, within the inner rim of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.  The Sun orbits the center of the Milky Way at a distance of approximately 24,000–26,000 light years from the Galactic Center (located at 27° Sag), completing one clockwise orbit (from the Galactic North pole) in about 225–250 million years.  Sunlight supports almost all life on Earth through photosynthesis and directly affects climate and weather patterns.

Each planet is presented with its Roman and Greek names before the interpretation section.  What we call the astrological Sun, the Romans called Sol Invictus and the Greeks knew as the Titan Helios, descended from the union of Hyperion and Theia along with his sister Selene, the Moon, and Eos the Dawn.  Right there in Greek mythology we have a basis for considering the Sun, Moon and Rising Sign as a team of symbols, which mathematically produce the Lot of Fortune.

Shining Effectively

The astrological Sun symbolizes the core of being and vital life force.  It is the urge to radiate your unique light and express your creative power.  The sign it occupies at birth describes how you can shine in an ideal, flowing manner, invoking the Taoist principle of ‘wu-wei’ graceful action.  The house that the Sun occupies links your solar core with an instinct and describes an array of experiences that will center you and evoke purpose in your life.  The aspects the Sun shares with other planets and points in the chart describe forces of consciousness that need to be developed in the service of your life purpose.

When the Sun’s light and power are out of balance it can burn so bright that the surroundings are scorched.  Usually this happens when pride and fear govern your intentions and actions and you have not taken time with each experience to check the motives of your heart center.
